Wine Routes of Serbia - Vršac vineyards

Visiting the town of vine. Vršac, the town under a tower, is located 82km from Belgrade [a little more than one hour of a pleasant ride]. Vršac is one of those towns that are reasonably proud of its past and intensive development of the cultural life. In the past, this town was under a continual and intensive cultural development, with great intellectual circles of artists, long theater tradition and permanent literary life.

Vršac is a town which still amazes with its old architecture. However, this town "under the tower" is still in the process of urbanization, conformed to contemporary needs of the modern man, but with tendency of keeping the old center with its unique architecture.

In the history of this area, the first mention of vineyards dates from the middle of 1st century. In 1494, the royal court of Hungarian king Vladislav II, paid 10, 5 golden forints for a half of a barrel of Vršac wine. Turkish writer Evlija Čelebija writes in his itineraries from 1660. and 1664. about Vršac and its vineyards with crimson, delicious, sweet grape, scattered around hills.

Short break is planned on the Srebrno jezero [Silver Lake]. Continuing voyage towards Golubac, a town where Danube is 6 kilometres wide and for that reason called "Serbian sea". Danube is on its widest part decorated by Golubac Fortress, one of the most beautiful fortresses on its whole course. After visiting the fortress and break for taking photos, along the valley of Djerdap Gorge group arrives at the hotel "Lepenski Vir". Spare time. Visit to the museum "Lepenski Vir" and going on Captains Miša Hill for dinner. From this hill there is the best view of the Danube in its entire course, and art lovers can enjoy seeing open - air wood gallery. Accommodation in the hotel on the Danube bank. Day 4th: Breakfast. Photo Safari tour in National Park with viewing the inhabitants and amazing natural sights. After hunting, lunch with music and party under the open sky is prepared. Those without these ambitions can visit the observation hills of the National Park and enjoy the unique Djerdap view. From there we move to Kladovo to visit the Archeological Museum of the town. Trip continues towards Vratna and visiting of its attractions: Monastery Vratna, farm of mouflons, and the unique wonder of nature, Vratanjske Kapije [Vratanjske Gates], rocks which made rare and odd forms hanging over the Gorge of the little Vratna River. Departure to Negotin. Visit of a birth house of a famous Serbian composer Stevan Stojanović Mokranjac. Accommodation in the hotel. Spare time. Overnight.

Day 5th: Breakfast. Setting off from Negotin to the village Rajac along the narrow way, above which a village of wine cellars under the name "Rajačke pimnice" is rising. This is the small town built of trimmed stone and logs. After visiting wine cellars ["Pimnice"] and wine tasting, lunch is planned in the St. Trifun restaurant, and the specialties of the national cuisine of Negotin area are served. We leave "Pimnice" late in the afternoon, when return to Belgrade is planned.

Petnica cave, Research Center in Petnica. Visit to the old city center Tešnjar, Muselin's konak [hist. castle, palace], the monument of the greatest Serbian army commander Živojin Mišić, and the monument of poetess Desanka Maksimović]. Visit of the Monasteries Ćelije and Lelić in which are the relics of the Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović, the Orthodox theologian and writer from 20th century. Visit to the Monastery Pustinja from 14th century, built during the rule of the Nemanjić royal family.

Visit to the village Sitarice on the hillsides of Medvednik Mountain. One of 150 Latin fortresses, Vrdzma town was built by Romans between IV and VI century and has overcome many conquerors. In 1413 in the time of Turkish battles for the trone it was destroyed. It has never been renovated. Now day's village Vrdzma is situated here.

Not far away from it, only 3 kilometers to Rtanj, there is the lake of Vrdzma. You can reach this mountain pearl with the crystal clear water going through the green forest full of medical herbs, wild strawberries, blackberries and mushrooms. Visit Republic Square in Belgrade, Serbia


Starting point at Republic Square, in front of Monument to Prince Mihailo. Over viewing the old building of National Theater. After that, visiting the National Museum, then going to the Students Square, over viewing Kapetan Misino zdanje [the Rector's Palace], besides opportunity to visit Ethnographic Museum. After that, going to the Kalemegdan fortress - Roman Well, Belgrade Victor Monument, Military Museum, different monuments, astronomic observatory, City Zoo, panoramic view on confluence of rivers Sava and Danube, as well as panoramic view on New Belgrade and Zemun.

After sightseeing Kalemegdan, going back through Knez Mihailova street [pedestrian area] where, in street itself and in surrounding streets, you can visit galleries  restaurants, and do your shopping in world famous shops. Route of Royal Vineyards / Sumadija, Oplenac, Topola

Topola, in the heart of Sumadija, an administrative center and a fortified town from which runs the leader Karadjordje Petrovic the first Serbian uprising against the Turkish rule. Oplenac above Topola with the mausoleum of the royal dynasty Karadjordjevic, and the famous church of St. George decorated with 3.500 m² of gilded mosaic.

Reveal romance in Vojvodina (Dundjerski castle - Kovilj - Fruska Gora)

A picturesque castle in the Vojvodina plain near Bečej, nowadays hotel "Fantast". The pre - war landowner and wealthy heir, Bogdan Dundjerski built the castle between 1919 and 1923 together with a church and chapel the latter of which was decorated by the owner's close friend, the famous Uroš Predić. Dundjerski, a passionate lover of horses set up a stud farm with 1.400 thoroughbred horses which still exists today on a somewhat smaller scale.

Day 2nd: Breakfast. Route: Novi Sad - Sremski Karlovci - Palić.
Departure to Novi Sad. Visit to the old city center of Novi Sad [Sloboda Square, Orthodox Church, Vladičinski Palace, City Hall, Cathedral, Dunavska Street, Nikolajevska Church, Serbian National Theatre, Mladenački [Newlyweds] Square, bridges on the Danube, Sahat Tower], Petrovaradin Fortress.

Departure to Sremski Karlovci, the center of Serbian spiritual and secular power; visit to Orthodox Church, Patriarchate Court, Main Square and High School of Karlovci. Wine tasting in one of old wine cellars, lunch in restaurant "Kod 4 lava" with traditional dining table of Vojvodina. Departure to Palić in the evening. Dinner at national restaurant Majkin salaš [homestead]. Overnight at Cvetni salas.

Day 3rd: Breakfast. Route: Palić - Dundjerski castle.
Visit to the Palic; Lake and park, one of the most beautiful in Serbia. We suggest driving by lake or riding bicycles through the beautiful baroque park. Trip continues to the famous castle of Dundjerski family - Fantast [1919]. Visitors will hear a romantic story about this castle and love between Bogdan Dundjerski and beautiful Mara. Visitors can enjoy horse riding within castle. This castle Bečame one of the trademarks of Vojvodina thanks to its beauty. Diner in the castle restaurant; traditional dishes and national music orchestra - tamburaši [tambourines orchestra]. Overnight.

Day 4th: Breakfast. Route: Dundjerski castle - Kovilj - Fruska Gora - Belgrade.

Departure to Kovilj. Visit to the Monastery in Kovilj. Tasting of famous Kovilj's brandies [rakija] and honey from the monastery; visit to a house of Laza Kostić [1841 - 1910], one of the greatest Serbian poets who wrote one of the most beautiful love poems dedicated to Lenka Dundjerski - "Santa Maria de la Salute". Trip continues towards Fruška Gora with visiting two of 17 monasteries. The monastery Krusedol [built from 1509 to 1516] and Monastery Grgeteg [built from 1465 to 1485]. Arrival to Belgrade. Accommodation. Dinner. Overnight.

Day 5th: Breakfast. Transfer to the airport; departure.
